ACTIVEO The strength of ActivEO is its members. ActivEO families think up, research, organise and provide a a diverse range of stimulating social and educational activities for our children. Potential members join initially on a 'guest' basis, attending at least three events in order to meet as many existing members as possible, before applying for full membership. ActivEO expects all its members to contribute, by helping to produce the newsletter, organising events and with the many group administration duties. "It was the answer to the 'socialisation' issue we were looking for". Sally, Havant. "It's a great way of meeting other home educators". Stuart, Portsmouth. "ActivEO is one of the most welcoming and active home education groups we have ever encountered. We visited often from France, and finally moved into the area to take advantage of the wealth of activities". Michael, Chichester. "I feel very privileged to belong to such an active, supportive group. In ActivEO I find a connection and companionship that comes from working (often struggling) for the common cause of home-educating our children". Cate, Chichester. "I don't think we could have done this without the support network that ActivEO has provided for us". Steve, Havant.
ActivEO is a self-help group for home educators. The name is derived from "Active in Education Otherwise than at school". Launched in 1998, ActivEO offers a monthly newsletter with weekly events for group members home educating in the Chichester, Bognor Regis, Havant, Portsmouth and Petersfield areas.
Thanks to the flexibility of commercial and and public providers, we have negotiated excellent deals for off-peak access and teaching that reflects our priorities - engendering enthusiasm and raising curiosity, which is often difficult within the confines of the National Curriculum. We know that the teachers we use find this freedom rewarding. This all helps in the development of effective learning.
"An open, friendly, happy group of people". Becky, Portsmouth.
